You have highlighted some very good points in this articles. Well done! I still find it hard to believe that we put international economies ahead of Australian economies in some cases. It just doesn't make sense! "Short term gain, long term pain" in my opinion.

Sorry we can't a former PM nearly broke his kneck in his haste to sign a free trsade document which guarantees free trade in asll things. No tarfiffs, duties can be payable on imported goods.

Personally I feel thta free trade will go thwe way of all knee-jerk reaction (or we thought it a good idea that day). I think we are stuck with it. OR we can invent new name s like other countries have done ..... or completely ignored the whole idea and procted their own.

Why is it that Australians seem to feel inferior to everyone else whwen it comes to taking whatever is thrust at us.

Just a thought. Is or are no tariffs etc fair when China artificially suppresses the value of the yen?????????? Why don't we do the same??????????

I was thinking the same thing my self. I think it is deplorable that ANY item referring to Australian Day and/or that have the Australian flag depicted, in full or partiall, should be allowed to be made by an enterprise that is wholly owned and made in Australia.

You state on this site that you want to support Aussie manufacturing, yet nowhere here can I see mention of Aussie-made vehicles!!! Surely, the second most expensive item most of us will buy should be included, especially considering the pressure the industry is currently under.

Something has to give, Australians want the cheapest of everything which means buying imported goods over locally made but insist on the highest of wages and most generous of working conditions and entitlements. This cant last, wake up Australian and support Australian made and owned products!!!

Given that fruit is seasonal you may have found yourself more disappointed that only foreign-owned and produced dried fruit was available had Sunbeam not been using imported procucts during the off-season. At least you were buying Australian owned, which is no longer the case. Every time an iconic Aussie brand hands over the reigns to a foreign owner I feel so disheartened. Shame on the share holders and their self-interest.

But the vital question is this: when they are "temporarily" using imported brocolli and cauliflower, do Bird's Eye leave the "Australian Grown" and "Product of Australia" details on the package?!

I've continued to buy bananas all year despite the price hikes. Given the nutritional value they are still a lot cheaper than chocolate or other junk snacks. Given the influential lobby group that is the banana growers why aren't
other growers yielding the same power as they do. Obviously they are highly powerful with the govt. I don't care if ther's a blemish on fruit rather buy organic or grow my own. Consumers want fruit to look like plastic these days and it tastes similar.

I've refused to buy any SPC products since Coke Cola Amital has had ownership. Greedy execs sold off the business to line their own pockets. I refuse to buy anything owned or associated with Coke Cola Amital! SPC have only themselves to blame.
